Can a cheap Irish stout kit really taste like Guinness? 🍺

In this video, I take a standard Irish stout kit and show you step-by-step how to brew it at home, then compare the final result to Guinness to see if it’s actually worth it.

Perfect for beginners – this is one of the easiest ways to start home brewing.

🛠️ FULL BREWING INSTRUCTIONS

Ingredients:
• Irish stout beer kit
• 1kg brewing sugar (or beer enhancer for better body)
• Water
• Yeast (included in kit)

⚙️ Method:

1. Sanitise everything
Cleanliness is key – anything touching the beer must be sanitised.

2. Add the malt extract
• Stand the can in hot water first (loosens it)
• Pour into your fermenter

3. Add sugar
• Add 1kg brewing sugar (or enhancer)
• Mix well with hot water until fully dissolved

4. Top up with cold water
• Fill to around 23 litres
• Aim for a temp of ~20°C

5. Add yeast
• Sprinkle yeast on top (no need to stir)

6. Ferment
• Leave for 7–10 days
• Keep around 18–22°C

7. Bottle or keg
• Add sugar for carbonation
• Store bottles for 2 weeks minimum

🍺 FINAL RESULT
• Smooth, dark stout
• Roasted flavour with slight bitterness
• Creamy head (depending on carbonation)

⚖️ GUINNESS COMPARISON

Compared to Guinness:

Similarities:
• Dark roasted flavour
• Coffee/chocolate notes
• Easy drinking

Differences:
• Less creamy (no nitrogen effect)
• Slightly sweeter depending on sugar used
• Less “pub-style” smoothness

👉 But for the price… it’s surprisingly close.
