I have been playing Dwarf Fortress for over 10 years and always love firing up a new fort. Dwarf Fortress is a joy to play, but can be daunting at first, as there are many systems and mechanics to learn. In this complete beginners guide to Dwarf Fortress, I will explain to you the basics from the ground up by starting a brand new fort so you can watch and even play along. I will explain the controls, the UI, the mechanics, how to build, mine, craft, decorate, navigate the map, and survive. I detail my thought process, sharing tips and tricks along the way but I spoil nothing about the game. I don’t force a particular path or tell you to min/max, but rather help by providing the fundamentals so you can enjoy Dwarf Fortress at your own pace.
