Helles Bock – How To Brew Beer

Homebrew Beer for Beginners
This week it’s Helles Bock, otherwise known as Maibock. This is a strong malty German lager but much paler in color than you might expect for a bock beer. In addition to brewing this up, Martin experiments with chilling wort to lager temperatures using a combination of a JaDeD immersion chiller, a couple of bags of ice, and a little bit of invention.

Recipe:
6 lbs Pilsner; German
5 lbs Maris Otter
3 lbs Munich Malt – 10
2.00 oz Hallertauer Pellets – Boil 60.0 min
1.00 oz Hallertauer Pellets – Boil 15.0 min
1.0 pkg German Lager (White Labs #WLP830)

Mash at 152F for 60 mins
Boil for 60 mins
