Cold Brew Kombucha recipe

Homebrew Kombucha
This is the simplest way to make Kombucha at home.

I devised this method 3 months ago after conducting some experiments with room temp and cold brewing. It is just as effective as the boiling method.

*Materials and Instructions listed below*

Purchase a Scoby from:

Materials Needed:

1 Gallon Glass jar w/lid
1 Wooden spoon
1 Gallon clean/filtered water
1 Kombucha Scoby
4 Black tea bags
4 Green tea bags
1 Cup of Cane sugar (or refined sugar not processed with bone char.)
1 cup of plain (unflavored) and unpasteurized Kombucha.
*aka starter tea*

1.Fill Glass Jar with 14 cups of clean/filtered water.

2.With a wooden spoon, stir 1 cup of sugar and 8 Tea bags into the Glass jar until the sugar dissolves.

3.Seal the jar with it’s respective lid or a coffee cup and rubber band.

4.Place the jar in the fridge 1-3 days (24 to 72 hours).

5.Remove the jar from the refrigerator and leave it out until it reaches room temperature.

6.Open the jar, & with clean hands, remove the 8 tea bags from the jar.

7.Pour 3/4 cups of *starter tea* into the jar and stir it in with a wooden spoon. *Starter tea is plain & unflavored & unpasteurized Kombucha from a previous batch or bottle*

8.With clean hands, gently slip the scoby into the jar.

9.Close the jar and place it in a a cool dark place away from sunlight. (Perhaps in a cupboard, cabinet, or closet.)

10.Allow the tea to ferment 7 to 14 days.

11.Sample the kombucha every other day to ensure that it suits your taste buds.

12.When the Kombucha is to your liking, remove the scoby and 1 cup of Kombucha from your jar, and refrigerate them in a separate container.

PT. 2.

If you want to carry out a 2nd fermentation;

1.Pour your tea into smaller glass bottles and add your choice of fruits and herbs.

2.Allow the tea to ferment an additional 1 – 3 days.

3.Over a large bowl, in the kitchen sink, uncap/burp the bottles every 6 to 8 hours to prevent excessive carbonation/an explosion from occuring)

*It’s ok for a little carbonation to fizzle out of the bottles*

3. Sample the Tea every day until it it achieves your desired flavor and level of carbonation.

4.Drink and enjoy!
