This week, we taste an American Brown Ale that Mike brewed in the honor of Mike McDole. Mike “Tasty” McDole was a prominent podcaster with The Brewing Network. Mike has been a long time listener and supporter of The Brewing Network; so brewing this beer in honor of Tasty was a way to say thanks for the years Tasty contributed to the shows on The Brewing Network.
This beer pours a solid brown color with red hues at the edges. After a sip, you pick up its balanced hop punch. Predominantly, there is the woody/earthy quality of Northern Brewer Hops. The rest of the hops flavors are from the Cascade Hops as well as a generous Centennial dry hop.
This beer is pushing 6.5+% ABV, but it drinks pretty smoothly. This beer is a really classic example of what an American Brown Ale should be. By the numbers, it pushes the style guidelines some, but on the palate it’s easy to understand why this recipe was so popular.
Cheers!
